Our first session of the year was in the recording studio. As most of the equipment in a typical recording studio isn’t something I’ve had much experience with, this first session was more about safety around using the equipment and how to prevent damaging anything.
Our first performance session was some what similar to the recording session on Monday. We went through a work sheet about the performance space and the various hazards that could occur whilst using the equipment .
I also analysed my technical abilities and my current musical skill set. Whilst doing this i had to write down my strengths and weaknesses that I’d like to improve on. At the moment my main weakness is my lack of performance experience and also general guitar theory.
Our first MIDI session started off with a demonstration of where the different wires go to allow the sound card to connect to the Mac so we can start recording into the DAW. After the demonstration we unplugged our own workstation so we could practice connecting everything up. After doing this we spent the rest of the lesson experimenting with Logic. As I had only had a handful of experiences with Logic, I used this time to explore the basic features that I would need to record a simple idea into Logic.
